When Doug learned of his diagnosis last summer his response was, " I can't complain, I have lived a wonderful life". That pretty much sums up his entire fight with ALS. Doug was kind, funny, smart, accomplished, humble and a hell of a story teller. He was also a great friend as evidenced by the number of people that gathered around him and Tina over the past year to offer support and love. When I visited him just a week before his death he apologized for being "grumpy" and wanted to know how I was doing. Doug's "grumpy" was more positive than many people's baseline.

When Tina describes first meeting Doug in an airport far from home she describes him as the most beautiful man she had ever seen. Doug was indeed a beautiful man, inside and out. His passing leaves a huge void. My heart goes out to Tina, Jenna, Carmen, Karen,Betty and the rest of his family and friends who will miss him forever.
