Obituary

Ellen Ann Calonkey Bones of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026 at the age of 71. She was born on November 10, 1954 to Robert F. and Sara Jean Calonkey in Norman, Oklahoma. After graduating from Southern Methodist University, Ellen pursued her teaching certification at Oklahoma City University and attained an additional Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. She became a beloved grade school teacher for Norman Public Schools, spending significant time at Kennedy Elementary, Rosevelt Elementary, and other schools in Norman and Oklahoma City. She also worked at her family’s furniture store, Mister Robert Furniture in Norman, Oklahoma. She won the 1989-1990 Outstanding Future Early Childhood Teacher Award from Oklahoma City University and Outstanding Teacher Award for Oklahoma from the Mathematical Association of America in 2000. Ellen was a gifted artist and teacher who loved animals, dogs, in particular. She is survived by her sons, Sam Satovich (wife Nikki Olson Satovich) and Paul (wife Bradlin Finson Bones), as well as her siblings Steve Calonkey, Keven Calonkey Carl, and Tim Calonkey.

A rosary will be prayed for her at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman Thursday, March 26th at 6pm. Her funeral will be held at 11am Friday, March 27th, also at St. Mark. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Second Chance Animal Sanctuary (Norman, OK) in Ellen’s name.
