Kathleen Margaret Eddy was born August 31, 1955 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in March of 2000, and passed away at home on July 6, 2000 on Saturna Island in British Columbia Canada.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Amos Eddy (NHS 1970), who passed away on May 7, 1998. She is survived by her partner, Hubertus Surm, and a daughter, Danika Surm, who was 15 at the time of her mother’s death. She is also survived by her mother, Margaret; her father, Amos (although he passed away 2 months after Kathleen died); her brothers, Terry (NHS 1976) and Dan (NHS 1980); and her sister, Jackie (NHS 1978).
Kathy moved back to Canada right after high school and lived in Vancouver, working in a food coop and, later a credit union. She and her family moved to Saturna Island in the mid-90s, where she managed the island`s little grocery and was active in the community playhouse. Saturna is a very small community and she was well-known, well-loved, and missed greatly. She is buried in the island`s cemetery.
